Dallas Look to Upset Golden State in Western Conference Finals’ Opener

It is not overstatement to say that the Mavericks’ 123-90 blowout at NBA No. 1 overall seed Phoenix in Game 7 on Sunday was one of the most improbable outcomes in league playoff history. Not so much that Dallas won, although it was +6.5 underdog, but it was in the stunning fashion that it obliterated a team that had won a franchise-record 64 regular-season games this season. Indeed, it was the second-largest margin of victory in a series-clinching caper vs. the best regular-season team in league history.

Dallas superstar Luka Doncic was the centerpiece in game seven delivering a performance for the ages. The Slovenian had 35 points, ten rebounds, four assists and two steals Sunday and averaged 32.6 ppg, 9.9 RPG and 7.0 APG in the series. Doncic had 27 points at halftime Sunday, the same amount the Suns had as a team. They will be facing a Golden State Warriors squad that took care of business overcoming the Memphis Grizzlies in six games and will participate in their sixth conference finals in the past nine years.

The Warriors enter this opener as a 5-point favorite with the total set at 214.5 points as the tilt is scheduled to start Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. ET from Chase Center in San Francisco with the live broadcast conducted by the TNT channel. The Warriors have lost three of four to the Mavericks this season and have struggled against the Mavericks losing nine of their last eleven encounters to Dallas dating back to March of 2019.

However, to the Warriors’ defense, they didn’t have their three best players – Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green – in any of their four outings against Dallas this season. The Warriors are 5-6 ATS in the playoffs this year and went over the total on seven occasions during that span. The Mavericks have fared much better against the numbers by going 9-4 in 13 games while going under the total in 8 of their playoff games.

Prediction: Golden State has won all its home games in the playoffs this season by an average of 14.5 points and I see no reason why that trend won’t continue on Wednesday.
